How big is a full-grown French Bulldog?

An adult French Bulldog stands about 11–13 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs roughly 16–28 pounds. Males usually sit at the heavier end, females a little lighter. They're compact but dense — that famous "small dog, big weight" surprise when you pick one up.

When do Frenchies stop growing?

Most Frenchies reach their full height by around 9–12 months, then keep filling out in muscle and chest width until about 12–14 months. So a one-year-old Frenchie is usually close to its adult frame, with a little more bulk to come.

Frenchie growth timeline

  • 0–3 months: fast early growth; still a roly-poly puppy.
  • 3–6 months: legs and body lengthen; most of the height happens here.
  • 6–9 months: growth slows; the chest starts to broaden.
  • 9–14 months: near-final height, filling out to adult weight.

Mini Frenchies vs standard

"Mini" or "teacup" Frenchie isn't an official size — it usually just means a smaller-than-average dog, sometimes bred down in ways that can bring health issues. There's one French Bulldog standard; be cautious of anyone charging a premium for "mini".

Sizing gear for a Frenchie

Because Frenchies have a wide chest and short legs, weight alone won't tell you the size — always measure the chest girth. That's why a normal dog harness or coat often won't fit.

  • Measure chest girth before buying a harness or clothes.
  • For a growing puppy, choose adjustable gear so it lasts through the growth spurts.

Get the fit right: shop adjustable Frenchie harnesses and clothes cut for the Frenchie build.
