He keeps lying on the kitchen tile

It is a hot afternoon. The couch is warm, his bed is warm, so your Frenchie walks to the kitchen and drops onto the tile, belly down, chin flat on the floor.

He is not being dramatic. He found the one surface in the house that does not warm up under him. The trouble is that the tile is hard, and he spends hours there.

A bed that lets air in underneath

This is a raised dog bed, the kind people call a cot. A steel frame stands on legs, and one sheet of mesh is pulled tight across the top. The mesh sits off the floor, so air moves under him as well as over him.

He gets a real place to lie, with a surface that is open instead of foam or fur. Put it where he already goes on a hot day, and he has a bed there that is his own.

What you get

A steel frame with rounded corners and capped feet, black mesh stretched across it, nothing else. There is nothing to unzip and nothing to go flat. Hair does not cling to mesh, so a damp cloth and a few minutes to dry is the whole cleaning routine.

What it leaves out matters too. No walls, no pillow for his chin, no padding under his chest. It is open, firm and flat.

Who it suits, and who it does not

It suits the Frenchie who heads for the tile when the weather turns warm, and the owner who wants a proper bed in that spot.

Skip it if he chews his bed. No bed is chew-proof, and we will not call this one that.

Skip it if he leans on edges, because there are no walls. Skip it if he turns in a soft cushion before he settles, because mesh will feel like a plank to him.

In cold weather bare mesh adds no warmth, so lay a blanket on top or save the bed for summer. Keep it indoors or in shade. A frame in direct sun gets hot, so lay a hand on it before he lies down.

How to choose

Weight picks the size, and an adult Frenchie takes M. S is the puppy size, and he will outgrow it.

The size table shows both. To be sure, lay him out flat in his favorite spot and measure from nose to base of tail.

The sleeping surface should be longer. Between two sizes, take the larger.

Mesh moves a little under a paw, so on day one lay his own blanket across it and drop a treat in the middle. Let the first step be his idea.
