The problem: he never sleeps in the open

Watch where your Frenchie lies down when nobody tells him where. He wedges himself between the couch and the coffee table, or flops with his back against your leg.

A flat mat in the middle of the room gives him nothing to lean on, so he skips it.

The fix: a wall on every side

This bed has a padded rim running all the way round an oval sleeping floor. Wherever you put it, he has something solid at his back and under his chin.

The oval has no corners to cram into. He can circle, drop and lean whichever way he likes.

What you get

A soft, flat floor inside the rim and ribbed fabric on the outside wall. The bed is detachable and washable, so one muddy paw print does not mean throwing it out.

After a wash, let every piece dry before he lies down again. Then check that the rim is plump and even all the way round.

Put it where the family sits, next to the couch he already likes and a little away from a radiator.

Who it suits, and who it does not

It suits the Frenchie who curls up and leans, and the owner who wants a bed that comes apart for washing.

Skip it if he sleeps stretched out full length. The rim takes some of the floor, so he has less room than the outside size suggests.

Skip it for now if your puppy chews everything in reach. A padded rim is easy to get hold of, and no bed is chew-proof.

And if he heads for the cool tile when the weather is hot, this is a bed for the cooler months.

How to choose

Weight picks the size. Check the size table: an adult Frenchie takes XL, while M and L are puppy sizes he grows out of.

Then let him lie out in his favorite spot and measure from his nose to the base of his tail. The floor inside the rim should be longer than that, and it is always smaller than the whole bed. Between two sizes, take the larger one.
